Master, John Poulten visits Army Cadet Force Visitors Day at Crowborough
On Sunday 19th August, the Master, accompanied by the Hon. Clerk and Freeman Janet Sergison, attended the ACF Visitors Day at Crowborough, as part of their Annual Camp.
As you know, our Charity supports the City of London and North East Sector of the ACF, which covers a large area from Hackney in the North to Upminster in the East.
After a briefing by the C.O. Lt.Col. Larry Davies, we were taken around the camp to see various groups of Cadets, aged mainly between 13 and 17 years of age. Some were away on their first camp and some were “old hands”.
Older cadets had just come back after 48 hours under canvas. Other were learning basic rifle skills, drill instruction etc. The competitive edges were over the Tug of War and Drill Competitions.
The emphasis of the ACF is to teach self-reliance and self-respect as well as respect for others and team work. What we found was enthusiastic boys and girls – keen to succeed and improve. They were extremely positive, very polite and forthcoming.
It was a delight to meet them.
All in all …an excellent day.
