Past Master, Guy Harrison recently visited Livery member Chris Blade at Cumbria Crystal and received a very warm welcome and an enlightened tour of the factory:-

An official Downton Abbey Cocktail Book has just been released illustrating a mouth-watering selection of recipes which are stunningly illustrated using Cumbria Crystal from the movie and other collections by the company. The cocktail book is now available across the UK.

Signed by the glass blowers, cutters & staff who actually make the crystal will be available directly from the company in due course. All the crystal used on set and in the book is available directly from Cumbria Crystal and is hand made specifically for the client.

With only 23 employees the Lake District based luxury glass-blowing company punches far above its weight, enjoying global recognition as one of the world’s leading luxury crystal manufacturers producing hand-blown, hand-cut lead crystal barware and stemware. Craftsmanship and creativity is at the heart of Cumbria Crystal, located in the Cumbrian Lake District National Park, UK and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Synonymous with quality, impeccable design & craftsmanship, British heritage and luxury living the company’s iconic crystal collections are regularly selected to feature in films and period dramas. These include James Bond (Casino Royal), Downton Abbey (every series), The Darkest Hour, Poldark, Poirot plus many more.

The company designs and manufactures collections for royalty, and supplies all the British Embassies & Consulates for formal dining worldwide and partners with many well-known brands including Bentley, Hamilton & Inches, David Linley & Glancy Fawcett. MD Chris Blade says “we are thrilled that our crystal has once again been selected for inclusion in Downton Abbey and a a consequence our company is able to showcase our extraordinary talent & products worldwide. We are dedicated to retaining and developing Britain’s traditional glassmaking heritage. This is under threat as we are the last luxury crystal manufacturer in the UK and as such are passionate about retaining these exceptional and rare skills. As such we does not outsource, produce overseas or use automated production methods, preferring to specialise in traditional 2000 year old production techniques. Association with Downton Abbey helps us achieve this & support our young apprentices.”
