With some trepidation we looked at a calendar that held optimism. To hold, once again the Company’s Annual Banquet at the Mansion House. This was scheduled for the end of October 2021. It was with some concern that six weeks before the date the Clerk received communication from the Mansion House. The Lord Mayor had made claim on our booking for an event. This disabling us to have our Annual Banquet at Mansion House and with no alternative date available.

We must however not forget the opportunities that we did have in the past near twelve months. The Masters’ Installation Ceremony at St James’ Garlickhythe in December followed by a luncheon. Our Quarter Day meeting in June at Vintners Hall, Court and Livery Dinner – Evensong at St James’s Garlickhythe in July with a Supper afterwards at Bakers Hall and then a Luncheon at Watermans’ Hall in August.
We have adapted and carried on – and so the bubbles flowed, and people chatted and giggled as friendships were rekindled as if the last time we met seemed like yesterday.

For our gathering we returned to the historic Waterman’s Hall where we were in September 2019 also for a Luncheon. The Hall was purpose built in 1780 though the Company of Watermen and Lightermen of the River Thames were founded in 1514. The 18th Century Hall sited in St Mary at Hill a stone’s throw from the Tower of London nestles quietly and elegantly and suits well for medium sized gatherings.
